Samsung to release the Galaxy S8 : here is what you need to know

Nobody truly knows the exact date the Samsung Galaxy S8 will launch, but we have a lot of speculation floating around. This is mostly because a lot of people are eager to see how the company bounces back from the Note 7 tragedy, others are excited to see how the company will improve the device from its predecessor, the beast that is the Samsung Galaxy S7. The S7 was an all-round device, stylish and one of the most powerful device smartphones in the market. There is still time for the company to incorporate new technology into the device, and a whole lot of room for improvement.

Galaxy S8 release

Release Date

It is customary for Samsung to roll out flagship smartphones at the beginning of the year, that is why we expect the new Samsung Galaxy S8 to launch sometime early 2017, plus the company is desperate to roll out a flagship design after their anticipated money maker, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 backfired. Trusted sources suggest that the device will launch late February next year, before the world mobile congress. Let us take a look at the hottest leaks, rumours and news surrounding the launch of the anticipated Samsung Galaxy S8

Build and Design

The company is most likely going to refine the S7 design, which wasn’t that bad therefore, we don’t expect to see significant changes here, and the S7 was one of the most attractive smartphone design. Samsung may decide to focus on keeping the device thinner, or make it more comfortable on the palm by increasing the curve on the back edge of the S7. We don’t know much about the smartphone’s design but the company’s vice chairman did say it going to be slick, guess we should just believe him. Samsung may just decide to give the device a completely new design, which would be great.

Screen

The highlight of the news and rumours on the screen department is that the company will be ditching the flat screen version of its flagship devices. Sources say that the Samsung galaxy s8 will launch in two versions, both of which will be curved. One of the devices will feature a 5.1 inch QHD while the other one will be a 4K 5.5 inch display. Samsung needs to make its devices’ screens sharper now that the company is making a big push into VR with its new Gear VR headsets. It makes sense for Samsung to push the resolution up for at least one version of the Samsung Galaxy S8 since S7’S QHD it's not quite up to scratch for VR, its sharp enough as a phone though. The company specifically plans to equip the Galaxy S8 with a UHD display according to Chinese sources. Samsung has already developed a pin sharp 806ppi screen (5.5-inch 2160 x 3840) designed for premium devices and it sure doesn’t get more premium than the Galaxy S8.

  Power Usage and Operating System

The Galaxy S8 is rumoured to be powered by a 3.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 830 chip in the United States and a 3GHz Exynos 8895 processor in other regions, and 6GBs of RAM. The Snapdragon 830 is rumoured to be more efficient, smaller and way faster than the Snapdragon 820. The snapdragon 830 is however not official yet but it is expected to be the next QUALCOMM’s next flagship device chip. Exynos 8895 chip is most likely to be devices outside the US. The Exynos chip is Samsung’s own creation and is apparently clocked at up to 3GHz (up from 2.3GHz on the Exynos 8890 in the S7), it supposedly improves image processing performance by over 70% is in addition to being optimized for low power usage. The battery power saved by this processor will be very useful if Samsung decides to launch Samsung Galaxy S8 with the 4K screen.

  Camera and Battery

It wouldn't be surprising if Samsung packed a dual lens camera on the Samsung Galaxy S8. Dual lens cameras seem to be latest trend in major flagship devices with the iPhone 7 Plus, LG G5 and Huawei P9 all coming with dual lens cameras. It is too early to tell whether some of these dual lens camera rumours are true though. The Galaxy S8 comes with wider aperture than the S7, which could allow for more detailed images by increasing the megapixel count since the extra width could allow more light into the lens. The S8 may launch with an 8MP front-facing snapper and a 30MP rear camera.

On the battery department, we are not still convinced but rumours suggest that the device will come with a massive 4200mAh battery. We hope it will be as efficient as the 3000mAh battery we saw on the Samsung galaxy S7. The battery will be big, that’s given, but not 4200mAh big, we think.

Sources also say that the Galaxy S8 will include other features such as a mini projector, a fingerprint scanner in the screen, the Viv AI assistant and an iris scanner. Stay tuned for more updates on the Samsung Galaxy S8.
