Lenovo Phab 2, Phab 2 Plus and Phab 2 Pro smartphones with 6.4-Inch Display Announced: Specifications and Price in Kenya

Lenovo has announced three new phablets to be available in the market as from Tuesday, November 1, 2016, one of them being the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro. Alongside the phab 2 Pro, Moto Z Force and Moto Z, Lenovo also unveiled the Lenovo Phab 2 and Phab 2 Plus, two new large-screen smartphones. These pieces of technology should be of great interest to you not for their not so creative names but for the fact that one of them, the phab 2 pro, will be the only device ever to ship with Google's Project Tango tech effectively. The Phab 2 and Phab 2 Plus smartphones are priced at roughly 20000 KES.

The latest generation of Lenovo’s Phab series come with improved features such as more expandable storage support, 3GB of RAM and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The two devices are the successors to Lenovo Phab and Phab Plus smartphones, which were unveiled last year and are not to be confused with the Phab 2 Pro, which is Lenovo’s first smartphone to run on Google’s Tango Platform.

Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, aka Project Tango

For all of you that may not be aware, Project Tango is a technology that steers a smartphone's hardware to detect its own location in 3D via advanced infrared sensors. Because of the nature and breadth of Project Tango as a new technology, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro which was originally scheduled to launch a few months ago but it got pushed November. It is exciting to know that project tango can allow users to reimagine actual surroundings with virtual objects. These abilities will be made available to the Phab 2 Pro. It can also, for example, provide some semblance of augmented reality experience by bringing virtual objects into the real world.  Project Tango, therefore, appears to be somewhat a revolutionary device.

All these features are supposedly done by the smartphone’s camera sensors the smartphone is also presumed to have the ability to effectively convey 3D space using area learning, depth perception, motion tracking and screen real estate in addition to all the capabilities named above. It is evident, however, that Google deemed all the Phab 2 Pro's specs worthy for its latest project.

Even Lenovo's description will not be able to give you a deeper insight of the mechanics involved. The device has a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, 64 GB internal storage, 4 GB of RAM and it runs on a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor.

Also, the device has a massive 4,050mAh battery, a humongous QHD screen and except for those two, a closer look at the smartphone’s spec sheet shows no other standout hardware component. Take a look at Lenovo Phab 2, Phab 2 Plus key features:

Both smartphones come with 32GB built-in storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via micro SD and are powered by a 4,050mAh battery. The Phab 2 Plus, just like the Phab 2 Pro, comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back. The Phab 2 Plus has a dual 13 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front camera while the Phab 2 carries 13 MP rear camera with a LED flash and a 5-megapixel front camera. Both devices will be available in Gunmetal Grey and Champagne Gold colour options. Both phablets support connectivity options like micro USB port, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and are 4G LTE enabled. The Phab 2 Plus has 3GB of RAM while the Phab 2 comes with 2GB of RAM. The devices are powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT8783 processor and run Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Vibe UI on top. Both Lenovo PHAB 2 Plus and PHAB 2feature 6.4-inch display but the former has a 1080p full HD one while the latter has a 720p HD one.
