The Samsung Galaxy On 7 Pro is an improved version of the Galaxy On 7 unveiled in 2015. The pro version was launched in July 2016 with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels on the 5.5-inch LCD display. Price in Kenya is expected to be in lines of the company’s J series price range.

Build and Design

The back panel of the Samsung Galaxy On 7 has a faux-leather texture to it which feels good on hands. It houses the loudspeaker and main 13MP camera with its LED flash. The bottom end is quite busy with the 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone pinhole and the micro-USB in the middle. To the right-hand side of the device is the lock/power key that’s easily accessible by either the index finger or thumb depending on the grip. The volume rocker is positioned to the left side of the device. Below the display is the traditional Samsung set of keys for navigation, two capacitive keys on each side of a physical home button. We have the 5.5-inch TFT display with about 267ppi pixel density or a resolution of 1280 x 720.

The plastic build on the Pro On 7 feels rather cheap and doesn't inspire much confidence. The metal strip that rounds the sides of the device helps attach some personality, though.

Hardware/Performance

Samsung has played it really safe with the hardware within the Galaxy On 7 Pro as with the rest of the smartphone. With 16GB internal storage (expandable via a micro SD card slot), 3,000mAh battery and 2 GBs of RAM, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 clocked at 1.2GHz coupled with an Adreno 302 GPU runs quite smoothly.

Operating system

The device runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Samsung's own TouchWiz UI on top. On the left side of the home screen is Flipboard which is directly integrated into the OS. The Device also arrives with Samsung's apps like My Galaxy, S planner, Galaxy Apps, a browser, and S Health alongside a whole bunch of Microsoft Applications, namely Skype, OneNote, OneDrive, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

Summary

The Samsung Galaxy On 7 Pro stands out among the group of the newly released mid-range smartphones by the company. It is a decent smartphone which however lacks the premium feel offered by the competition in the mid-range section. Stay tuned for updates on the price in Kenya.
