10 Tips to keep your smartphone's battery life - Kenya
-Advertisement-
Contrary to what most people thought, it is
harder to go more than a day without having to charge your phone in 2016.
Smartphone companies are yet to find better smartphone battery technology even
with the latest devices. You are never going to get a week out of your
smartphone battery, at least not in the near future but with a few tricks, you
can extend your phone’s battery life by a few hours at most. Large bright
screens on our smartphones alongside features such Bluetooth and Wi-Fi drain
batteries fast, here are ten tips to squeeze maximum battery life out of your
smartphone.
Reduce the screen brightness
The screen display expends battery charge
at an overwhelming rate compared to other components of your device. Consider
dimming the brightness of your smartphone's screen and save some power. Turn
down the brightness to the lowest tolerable level and significantly extend the
amount of time your battery lasts. Alternatively, you can enable the auto brightness
feature available on many smartphones. The auto brightness feature
automatically adjusts the brightness level to suit your environment.
Use a power saving mode
Some smartphone come with a power saving
mode that can be enabled or disabled in the settings. The power saving mode
turns off unnecessary wireless features such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, etc. and
turns down screen brightness.
Turn off some wireless features
Unless you are using them, consider turning
them off. Features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or GPS need to be turned off when not
in use because they are always looking for signals thus draining the battery in
the process.
Prevent Apps from using Your Location
Most Android and iPhone applications use
location services to find good deals within your area or to tag GPS data to
your status updates. Allowing apps to use your location consumes a lot of
battery charge. Keep track of it and make sure it is only turned on when you
need it.
Stop Apps running in the background
Many smartphones have the ability
multitask. This means that they can run several apps at the same time. It is a
very useful smartphone feature that can also sap the life out of your
smartphone’s battery at a devastating rate. Make sure you kill an app when you
are not using it to make sure that you don’t leave it running in the
background.
Do not Clutter Your Phone’s Home Screen with Unnecessary Widgets and Live Wallpapers
Filling your home screen with widgets and
using live wallpaper consumes a lot of battery power. Live wallpapers use a lot
of power and RAM because they are continuously playing. Consider leaving the
number of apps on the home screen to a bare minimum and save battery power.
Update Your Apps Regularly
Ensure that you download the latest
versions of application and software over Wi-Fi connection. This is because
developers and software engineers are always trying to improve power management
on devices.
Use a Good Battery Saver App
Install one of those power saving apps from
Play Store on your smartphone. Some of them actually optimise performance and
maximise phone’s battery life. A power saving app can let you prevent apps from
running in the background by putting them in hibernation mode when you are not
using them.
Keep your screen time-out short
You will find this setting on your display
settings menu. The setting determines the amount of time your phone screen will
remain lit after you touch a button, or you receive a notification. Consider
setting your screen time-out to a minimum.
Turn off haptic feedback and vibration
A phone uses more battery power to vibrate
than it does to actually to ring. Consider turning off vibration if you are not
in noisy places most of the time. Turn off the haptic feedback too to save a
significant amount of battery power.
