8 tips to keep your phone performance at peak
-Advertisement-
After an extended period of usage,
smartphones can become slow and unresponsive for many reasons, the most obvious
one being the effects of wear and tear.
The phone often takes long to respond, and no matter how annoying that
can be, it could take some time to put together enough cash to purchase a new
one so you have to endure. There are a few ways to boost your phone’s
performance to optimum levels, almost as good as new. Check them out:
Minimise the number of apps on your home screen
Too many apps and widgets on your phone's
home screen reduces performance in addition to significantly reducing your
smartphone’s battery life. Boost your phone’s speed, performance and save a few
hours of battery life by maintaining the minimum number of applications and
widgets on your homepage.
Uninstall unused apps
Many smartphone users are known for
installing a lot of apps, most of which they rarely use of don’t use at all.
Some of these apps have background processes that are constantly running using
up your phone’s RAM thus reducing performance speed. Free up some space by
removing idle apps to increase performance speed as well as the battery life.
You can also replace the apps that use up most of the memory with lighter apps
that perform the same tasks.
Frequent reboots
Rebooting your smartphone shuts down all
background processes making it as good as new when it turns back on. The
effects of restarting your phone can be compared to the effects sleep to
humans; frequent naps makes people more productive by restoring their energy
levels and revitalising their senses. The same applies to a smartphone when it
is rebooted as it refreshes its ability to solve performance issues internally.
Rebooting is perhaps the best way to boost your smartphone’s speed if it is
sluggish.
Turn off mobile services
Make sure you turn off mobile services such
as mobile data, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or GPS when you are not they are not in use.
These services will significantly reduce the performance as well as consume a
lot of phone’s battery charge if they are left on after use. Some apps can help
you do this if you are having trouble remembering to switch them off.
Battery life
The battery is perhaps the most disappointing
thing in a smartphone. Battery life isn’t as long as it used to be after some
time and you can’t go a day without carrying your charger or a power bank.
Reducing your screen brightness as well as its time-out period can
significantly extend your phone’s battery life. Smartphones tend to reduce
performance automatically when they are running on a low battery.
Clear browser cache and cookies
Browsing consumes a lot of your device’s
memory and after surfing the web for some time, the cached data causes congestion
on the phones memory. This results to sluggish surfing even though the internet
speed has not changed. Frequently check your browser and clear stored cache and
cookies for a decent surfing experience.
Remove live wallpapers
While live wallpapers can be pleasing to
the eye, they are definitely not good for your smartphone’s performance speed.
Live wallpapers will drain your smartphone battery within no time and adversely
affect your phone's performance by reducing available RAM and processor speed.
Occasionally clean your smartphone
Use clean water and a sponge to remove dirt
that gradually builds up on your smartphone’s screen, buttons or any other
crevices. It is not much, but it will keep your smartphone clean and shiny as
well as prevent dirt build up.
These tips will help restore your phone's
performance levels to back when it was brand new. Apply them to make the most
out of your old phone as you shop for a new one.
