tools to keep you updated on the events happening in Rio. Among the numerous
apps available, there are two official apps for the Rio Olympics, the Rio 2016
app and also the main Olympics. Both apps can be found on Android’s play store
and iOS. Through these apps, Android and iOS users can now more easily find
information on the Olympics, including details on athletes, medal counts and
event schedules. Users can also sign up to receive Olympic news alerts on their
smartphones. Here are the options:
The Olympics app is available for free on
Android and iOS. This is the official International Olympic Committee (IOC) app
where you will find information about all the participating countries, even
from the previous Olympics.
The BBC Sports app will also be providing
results, the ability to read saved related stories offline and major
highlights. Users will also be able to customise the BBC Sports app to receive
relevant updates and alerts on their favourite sports. The BBC app is available
for Android and iOS.
NBC Sports have also developed an Olympics
app that can use your location and give you information about athletes from
your region. Through the NBC app, you will be able to see results, schedules
and information about any athlete. The app is available for free for Android
and Apple iOS
The Rio 2016 app is available on Android
and iOS and gives you access to everything 2016 Rio Olympics as the name
suggests from participating countries and medal count to galleries of competing
athletes.
Other applications such as the Google
Street View has been enhanced and now includes highlights, tourist destinations
and Olympic venues as well as landmarks across Rio to help people who will be
attending the games navigate through the city.

YouTube
Google announced that they would be
providing news and updates for people missing the games for various reasons.
The company will also be showing highlights and games results. Search outcomes
will tailored to show key events, medal tables and results. The company also
set up complete regular highlights of all games channel on YouTube, official
Olympics YouTube channel. The International Olympic Committee will also be
rendering quick guides on new sports for users with a limited understanding of
less popular games such as the Olympic Rugby or Pentathlon through this
channel.
Social media highlights
There will also be dedicated Twitter and
Facebook accounts for the 2016 Rio Olympics that will broadcast updates and
highlights around the clock alongside other unofficial websites.
