Google Pixel vs. OPPO F1s; Specifications, Features and Price
-Advertisement-
Today,
we are going to compare the Google Pixel
and the OPPO F1s, another high-end
smartphone from China. Google Pixel has indeed made a huge impact on the
market, but can it toe to toe with the OPPO
F1s? Let’s take a closer look at the key aspects of the two devices.
Build and design
OPPO
F1s
The
handset has a high build quality and is quite sturdy. It is a well-crafted
device, though there is nothing new or different in the design from its
predecessor, the OPPO F1 Plus. The metal polish at the rear
has a matte finish attaching a premium feel to the design. You also get a metal back, and frame with a
glass finish on the front save for the minor differences in the overall design,
the device is very similar to the OPPO
F1 Plus in terms of looks.
Google pixel
On
first glance, the Google Pixel does
resemble an iPhone. The phone’s
metal frame is flat, but the corners have a rounded edge. Aside from the very
minor drop off from where the screen meets the frame, there isn’t any kind of
sharp edge on the device. The Nano SIM card tray is on the left, the plain
volume rocker buttons and the ribbed power standby button are on the right. The
antenna line is visible on the lower metallic half as well as three in the top
half. There is a round fingerprint scanner in the bottom side of the glass
area. The 12MP camera on the top left-hand corner is flush with the surface
since there is no camera bump thanks to the pearly white glass section on the
rear side is slightly raised from the plane of the metal. The Google Pixel is a well-balanced,
perfect-sized easy to hold device.
Display
OPPO
F1s
The
smartphone features a 267ppi 5.5-inch LCD display with a 1280×720 resolution
protected by Gorilla Glass 4. There is no colour shift even the viewing angles
wide, colour saturation is spot and.
Google
pixel
The
Pixel comes with a Corning Gorilla
Glass 4 protected AMOLED 2560 x 1440p 5.5-inch QHD display. The Google Pixel is
quite with a pixel density of 534PPI.
Camera
OPPO
F1s
The
OPPO F1s comes with a 16MP front
snapper and a 13MP rear camera with PDAF. OPPO has been focusing on
photography, and the new F1s sees a slight improvement over its predecessors,
the F1 and the F1 Plus, which were above average shooters.
Google
Pixel
The
camera is one of the main features of the Pixel.
The rear camera is a 12.3MP with an f/2.0 aperture. It has laser supported
autofocus and phase-detect autofocus. The front camera can record videos up to
1080p, and the rear camera can record 4K UHD videos. While shooting videos, the
Google Pixel uses the gyroscope to
provide electrical image stabilisation (EIS).
Performance
OPPO
F1s
The
overall performance feels close to a premium device and the processor, which is
an octa-core 64-bit chipset from MediaTek. Thanks to the 3GB of RAM, apps open
fast and the overall Day to day performance on the smartphone is great. Only two
or three cores out of the total 8 cores were operational most of the time so
save battery and possibly prevent overheating.
Google
Pixel
The
Google Pixel is powered by
Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 821 chipset which houses a quad-core processor
and two Kyro cores set at 1.6GHz and two custom Kyro cores clocked at 2.15GHz.
These are paired with Adreno 530 GPU. The pixel comes in 32GB and 128GB
variants.
Operating System
OPPO
F1s
The
F1s is powered by Android 5.1
Lollipop with OPPO Colour OS 3.0 UI on top. This OS can confuse you at times
especially if you are used to a more traditional stock-like Android UI.
However, it appears to be a good approach to the software as you get a sense of
minimalism on an Android device. The OS smoothly mimics Apple’s IOS with the notification shade, menus and the icons all
arranged in a manner similar to an iPhone.
Google
Pixel
The
Pixel comes with Android 7.1 Nougat OS. Notification
shade gives you a lot more control and take actions from the notification drop
down itself. The app drawer has been eschewed in favour of a swipe up mechanism
which shows you all the apps you have. Google Assistant is incorporated right
into the OS, for the first time ever. The Assistant is powered on by holding on
to the Home button for a few seconds.
Verdict
It
appears that the Pixel faces fierce competition from the OPPO F1s. Nevertheless, the Pixel clearly outshines the OPPO F1s in many aspects, a true
premium device. Price in Kenya for
the OPPO F1s is KES 40000. The Google Pixel is still not available in
the Kenyan market at the moment.
